I wrote an interesting post in my opinion Blog, ARCANA INTELLEGO, . Here, I'd like to show you an Italian Rapper sings about FAIDA , the private war between 2 families. 10 years ago, in a carnivalo Fest' in S: LUCA, a little town in Calabria some boys makes some jokes to others boys. This episodie tranformated in discussion between 2 families, after that one, only a month after, has been the first murder. Today 6 killed in Duisburg, Germany (Where Italian National Soccer made his training before world cup)

violence brings sadness and grief in its wake.your nation has/had so many good things going.music,singers,roman empire/julius caesar,pavarotti,sophia loren,spaghetti. let us hope that these things stop. music is great for the human race.

Yeah, this artist is born near my home, between Rome and Florence: UMBRIA, where mafia doesn't exist. But exist a sort of " Mafious' culture". I think it is bad , very bad: no violence, but black affairs, nepotism, corruption ( not in evidence, but as a 'good capitalist country')... I'm very regret with that thing.

When I first heard the word 'faida' and saw references to it in Australian newspapers a couple of days ago, I said to my wife: this looks like it relates to the German word 'Fehde'...

I speculated that it might have come from the time the Hohenstauffen reigned in Sicily and Calabria.

Today I Googled for the word and found the Italian entry in Wikipedia: indeed it derives from the old German fehida (Fehde). The Wikipedia article gives a good overview over the beginnings of the practice among the Germanic tribes, and cites heaps of learned references - but it is written in Italian and I can't follow it all :-)

But I can't see any direct argument as to why a Calabrian clan or two should have preserved such a once semi-legal remedy to obtain satisfaction. Why would this be? Is it widespread on Calabria? Or is it tacitly reserved for the native underworld?

  FIRST OF ALL YOU EXCUZE MY ENGLISH: I LIVE BETWEEN ROME AND FLORENCE (500 KM. TO cALABRIA) BUT HERE THERE ARE MANY CALABRESI THAT STUDIES IN MY TOWN IN PERUGIA'S UNIVERSITY. I KNOW SOME OF THEM AND THEIR CULTURE NOW IS NOT VERY DIFFERENT TO OUR, but the problem of Calabria (and Sicilia, Campania -Naples- Puglia and Sardinia) becomes to 170 years ago , when 3 separated Kingdoms fusion in One: Italy, CAVOUR one of principal italia politic born in 1800 ( and inventor of wine's d.o.c. sistem) said: Now Italy is done: the difficult sill be to make Italians. In my country these 3 kingodoms (4-5 if you count the more littles) has different culture, languages, money: Only Catholic Religion was the same... In south of Italy these differences was very big; 99% POPULATION WAS ANALPHABET; in North only 30-40%!! The economy is ONLY based in farms, every family has a little farm, : in the South NOONE family has...nothig: only Big Sir has ALL terrains; Families was only Tenent-farm. This state created very problems: Gangs; hungers, too many Sicilians, Calabreses emigrants in the NEW WORLD (America). They didn't credit to ITALIAN State: in this way "Sirs" become a "state parallel"; the MAFIA.In the time the situation is better, but some state cultural are very difficult to change....
